Bariatric multivitamin comparison: three formulas

Amounts below are per full labeled daily serving, not per bottle. These selected nutrients help illustrate differences; the table is not a complete nutritional assessment. Check the full label before buying.

What the comparison tells you: two products can both be called bariatric multivitamins while supplying very different nutrient amounts. A smaller serving count, a larger nutrient count or a particular B12 form does not by itself establish that a product is the better choice.

Which option belongs on your shortlist?

A once-daily capsule: Bariatric Fusion With Iron

Consider this format if your care team approves capsules and you want a one-capsule multivitamin routine. Its label supplies 45 mg iron. Limitation: that iron amount may not match every patient's plan, and calcium is not listed. One capsule does not mean one supplement covers everything. Source: capsule label.

A chewable: Bariatric Fusion With 45 mg Iron

This option avoids swallowing a whole capsule and uses one tablet daily with a meal. Limitations: taste and texture still matter, the iron dose needs to fit your plan, and the manufacturer calls for separate calcium. Chewable does not mean everyone will tolerate it. A liquid-filled softgel: Bari Liquid Force

Consider the format if you prefer swallowing softgels and your clinician has checked the entire regimen. Limitation: the two-softgel serving supplies less iron, B12 and vitamin D than the other examples. Its 9 mg iron is also below the routine iron amounts in the cited ASMBS guidance. Do not treat this serving as a complete standalone postoperative plan or take extra softgels to close individual nutrient gaps. Source: our published label.

Format is not proof of absorption. This comparison includes no head-to-head absorption testing. A liquid-filled softgel is swallowed inside a shell; it is not a drinkable liquid. If swallowing is difficult, ask which dosage forms your postoperative instructions permit before changing products.

Check nutrient coverage before choosing a brand

The ASMBS 2016 micronutrient guideline update, published in 2017, distinguishes preventive supplementation from treatment of deficiencies. It recommends at least 18 mg iron for low-risk postoperative patients and 45–60 mg daily, cumulatively from supplements, for menstruating females and patients after sleeve, Roux-en-Y bypass or BPD/DS. These are guideline categories, not an individualized prescription.

The guidance also addresses thiamine, B12, folate, vitamins A, D, E and K, calcium, zinc and copper. Requirements and monitoring vary with procedure and circumstances. A few matching numbers do not demonstrate that an entire product meets every recommendation. Bring the full label and your current supplement list to your bariatric clinician. • After sleeve or gastric bypass: review the complete daily regimen with your team. Our gastric sleeve vitamin guide provides additional context.
• After duodenal switch or a revision: confirm requirements for your exact procedure rather than assuming a sleeve-focused comparison applies.
• If nausea disrupts your routine: ask about dose timing and alternatives. A lower-iron product is not automatically an adequate substitute. See multivitamin considerations for sensitive stomachs.

Keep the laboratory follow-up your care team recommends. Symptoms alone cannot establish whether a particular vitamin product is working.

Compare the cost of the whole daily routine

Divide the bottle price by the number of days at the labeled serving. Then add the cost of any other supplements in your plan. Comparing bottle prices alone can hide a difference in serving count.

A five-question checklist before you buy

1. Does my care team approve this exact formulation for my surgery and recovery stage?
2. Have I compared the full daily serving, including nutrient forms and amounts?
3. What remains to be supplied separately, and how will I schedule it?
4. Can I manage the size, flavor, texture and daily serving consistently?
5. What will my complete routine cost per month?

Write down the answers alongside each candidate. If one is still unknown, resolve it before deciding that a product is your best option.

We compared the published daily servings of three named formulations across two brands. We read the manufacturer-hosted Fusion label images and our published Supplement Facts. Selection illustrates capsule, chewable and softgel choices; it does not establish market-wide superiority. We did not test absorption, taste, tolerance or clinical outcomes. Clinical guidance and manufacturer claims are different kinds of evidence.
